On our way to the US Open doubles final

New York, AAP – Sam Stosur and Lisa Raymond have beaten Katarina Srebotnik and Ai Sugiyama 7-5 6-1 to advance to the US Open women’s doubles final today.

The 2005 US Open champions are yet to drop a set in the tournament and will face either the fifth seeded team of Anabel Medina-Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual or the top seeded pair of Cara Black and Liezel Huber in the final.

A win at Flushing Meadows would cap a remarkable comeback for Stosur after she became ill and missed eight months of tennis with Lyme Disease following last year’s US Open.

Raymond and Stosur are gradually progressing towards reclaiming their world No.1 doubles crown after reaching the third round at this year’s French Open and finishing runners-up to the Williams sisters at Wimbledon.

Good luck for the final. I watched you play for the first time last night, and it was an absolute pleasure seeing you play. You have an amazing presence on the court, and an incredible aura about you. All the best from a South African (nogal!). I’m an instant fan – never thought I would ever do something like this. All the best.
