All over for Sam in Brisbane

All over for Sam in Brisbane

7 Jan 2009

It was a disappointing exit from the Brisbane International for Sam, going down to a resurgent Lucie Safarova in straight sets Tuesday. Sam and Lucie went game for game until 3-3 in the first set until Safarova broke Sam's serve and never looked back. The final result was a 6-4 6-4 defeat in just over an hour. Check out the video of Sam's press conference at the bottom of this page. Sam is not playing doubles this week, so she will focus on re-grouping and getting ready for the next big test at the Medibank International in Sydney next week. She is playing singles and doubles with Rennae Stubbs.

hi sammi, just want to say that all the aussies are behind you, and i believe that you allow the rank of your oppponent get in the way of winning the match. trust yourself, and trust your ability, those women out there are not better than you, its just that you play up at the most crucial moments of a game. remember youre better than them, and i believe in you!
and thats what you need to do for youself, believ in yourself, we all do!!!!

Tough loss Sam, at least Lucie had to play at her best to win the match. She had a great serving day; very few women can win 83% of their service points in a match. Nice to see Lucie getting back to her best . . . just wish it didn't have to be against you!

Still, two very well played matches for you to start the year, and that's a real positive going forward.

Good work, Sammy!! Good luck in Sydney!
