Australians Samantha Stosur and Jelena Dokic have both advanced into the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami today.

Stosur was leading Sofia Arvidsson 6-1 2-0 when the Swede retired injured. Australia's No.1 female player will next face Austrian 27th seed Sybille Bammer.

Stosur holds a 2-1 advantage over Bammer in their career meetings, however, it was Bammer who triumphed when they last met in 2007.

Meanwhile, Jelena Dokic has begun her Miami campaign on a positive note with a 6-3 7-6(5) victory over Romanian Edina GallovitsĀ in the first round.

Dokic will now play Dane Caroline Wozniacki for the third time this season.

The Australian won their first meeting at the Australian Open in January before Wozniacki squared the ledger with a straight sets victory in Memphis.

Actually Jimmy, Rennae is in the veteran category in her mid thirties :) Sam being called a vet is however pretty outrageous I agree!

Unf i called in sick only a week ago (and went paintballing) so i dont want to push my luck, plus tis a bit suspect, if a group of mates all call in sick on same day, must plan better next time, 1 sick, 1 car breakdown, 1 cat death, 1 no show etc. Apparently there is no tennis on eurosport until monday anyways :(

Sam looked awesome this morning against Sybille, she was in cruise control.

She held every service game and I think might have only faced one break point in the match.

It was a little bit breezy out on Court 3 (it's almost always breezy on the outside courts since the site is so close to the water). Bammer has those kind of loopy, lefty shots and she struggled with the wind much more than Sam; Sam's pace of shot could drive through the wind.

Can't believe still no Doubles on Saturday; Stubbsy's probably going crazy waiting around to play!

Sam might have a shot of getting on Center Court on Sunday against Dinara, especially since the Williams sisters both play Saturday.

    Saturday's not a total loss though . . . I think Janko's on the schedule! LOL

Good girl Sammy . . . well done today!!!!

[If Sam wins Sunday we're gonna have to stay over while she's still alive in the draw. This could get real expensive!]

Great win for Sammy hardly gave Bammer a chance to break. Safina vs Sammy should be a centre court match so expect it on T.V

Hah, this is ridiculous, in Sam and Rennae's team profile it says: After a great deal of success with others, Australian veterans Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs started an exclusive doubles partnership in 2009. It's stupid to think that a 26 year old is veteran, but 24 it's just pathetic

Sam is on fire!!! Really good performance against Sybille Bammer!
  • Ice
Great win against Bammer Sam. I hope this gives you the confidence to win against even the top 10 players. Keep playing well and believing in yourself. It is so nice to see you getting closer to what we know you can achieve i.e. winning tournaments against the best. Kudos Sam :)

Why not??? Your boss won't mind I'm sure

Cheers admin! I hear sam just cruised past bammer. If only we had sun off crapbag work to at least shout at the tv. Call in sick?
  • daniel
Hey Tommy..actually I can't limit them, but what I will do in the meantime is just create a new news item when they get to say more than 10 comments. If there's nothing newsworthy we will just have to make something up ;)

As for the forum...all I can say is that it is being worked on!
  • tommy
dearest admin, any chance you can limit the amount of places we can comment...like just the news reels instead of the tournament link.....alternatively...when is our forum coming :(
    gd luck samson

    Nice Sam...Keep on cruising!
