Sam through to second round in New Haven

Sam through to second round in New Haven

26 Aug 2009

Sam has won a tough three set encounter against Frenchwoman Alize Cornet in New Haven today. After a strong start which saw Sam leading with a break of serve, Cornet came back  to level and eventually claim a very long first set in a tie break. The second set was a different story, with Sam’s serve and forehand starting to find their mark, she dominated and took the set 6-2. The third was a battle, and again Sam used her weapons at the right time to eventually claim a tight victory.

Sam next plays Elena Vesnina.
