US Open blog

31 Aug 2009

Hi everyone,

Well it’s the night before the US Open is due to begin so I thought I should drop you all a line to say ‘hi’.

I am first match on tomorrow at 11:00 am (New York time) against Ai Sugiyama of Japan.

My preparation for the Open has been great. I played a lot of matches in the lead up tournaments and am feeling good about my game.

Since arriving in New York City after New Haven there was a couple of days of rain so I didn’t practice for a couple of days but having a bit of a break wasn’t such a bad thing either. The last two days I’ve had some good practice and am looking forward to playing tomorrow.

I haven’t had a chance to do too much in the city yet but I’m hoping to get out and about a little bit as the week goes on. I’ve been out for dinner once to Soba Nippon Japanese restaurant, it is awesome, the food is so good and every other night I have stayed in the apartment for dinner.

I’ll talk to you all again soon but right now I better get myself organised for tomorrow.

Sam

loving the look of the new website!! you should take a lot of confidence from today’s win today, even if the serve and forehand weren’t firing spot on you beat a great opponent without that! Plus that was exactly the determination and fight you need to win the slam :-) good luck for the rest!! Will be watching!

  • Sam

Sorry you lost today Sam. Wish I could have been there cheering you on however I am sure Simmone, Rennae, Lindsay and Dave were cheering from the sidelines. A lot of pressure with your family in town I guess. Hopefully you can win the doubles looks like the Williams sisters may pull out given that Venus is struggling with injury. You have the class to win this and qualify for Doha. If you do don’t suppose you can sort out front row seats. from sam-king-1@fsmail.net

  • Trevor Giblin

Never mind Sam, we’re all still right behind you – we’re proud of what you’ve done so put it behind you

  • accouss

Sorry for my little english level, like Dolu, I’m a great (french) fan of you since Roland Garros, of your style all you own, and of you generally.

I’m very very sad to have seen this morning you’ve lost. I expected to see you in the second week.
But It’s a good and encouraging season. I hope and I’m sure your first victory in a single tournament will come soon.

You are so close to winning a major. You are inspiring to watch. So athletic, with grace, strength, and powerful shots. Like the early Ivan Lendl, you have faded at the end of the biggest matches, but will break through and win one soon. Look at what he did, once he stayed consistent until the end of all the big matches. Your doubles experience will only help you in the move to the WTA top five in singles. In the next year, you will get there. So many of the fans wish you the best!!!
