Sam Stosur has gone down 6-3 5-7 7-6(4) in a tight quarterfinal affair with Jelena Jankovic at the Dubai Championships.

Jankovic recovered from from 1-4 down in the final set against Stosur to win in a third set tiebreaker.

She will play Caroline Wozniacki in the semifinals after the Dane registered a 6-2 6-4 win over Shahar Peer to reclaim the world No.1 ranking from Kim Clijsters.

Stosur’s quarterfinal appearance could still result in a rankings rise to world No.4.

Hi Sam , congratuations on achieving new career high ranking ! That was a pretty colse match against Jankovic , but all I remembered is when two brocasters in Euro Sport mentioned that you could be the world No.1 , they also said you have many weapons which beyond woman’s game , and at the same time , I was listening and nodding . I think take a break for couple of weeks is good for you , take care ! Love you !!

That was some match Sam! Obviously disappointing that you didn’t win it, but I think you are finding your groove now. And, really, as a fan, I am never too disappointed if you make the quarterfinals or better (and it sure is an improvement than last year against Garbin!!). Congratulations on moving to world number 4 this week. Enjoy your time off – I really think you are being smart with your schedule and focusing on the big events. After all, it is a long year ahead. And your fans are looking forward to it.

    Hi Sam,

congratulations to being the world’s number four right now, that’s so great! =)
It is still a pity that you lost so close to Jankovic, I really had a hard time in front of the TV…
However keep going, the next step on your way to the number one is done.

    You are fantastic!
    Love and greetings from Germany,
    Tim

Sam, the good news is that so far this year you have only been beaten by quality players, more often than not in tight three-setters. The bad news is that so far this year you haven’t yet beaten a real quality player, despite having had a lot of chances. No reason to panic, but maybe you and Dave need to put your heads together to come up with a way of turning this trend around. You’re playing well enough, and I have been really impressed at how well you have held your own in tense rallies against some of the best ralliers in the game. But I do ask myself why you are getting involved in so many long rallies in the first place. For what it’s worth (I know, advice from the sidelines is cheap) I think you need to keep the points as short as possible. Initially you may gift a lot of points to your opponents by committing more errors, but the advantage is that you will the one dictating the terms and the rhythm of the match. The other thing I think you need to work on is reasserting control after the inevitable wobble. You said yourself that you sometimes go off with the fairies (priceless!), and that’s okay as long as you come back again pretty quick. Justine Henin built a career on coming back from second-set wobbles, and there’s no reason why you can’t do the same. The bottom line is that you are competing at a level where the line between winning and losing is extremely thin. It’s just a matter of working on a few things here and there to get yourself on the other side of that line. You have been totally committed to improving your game since coming back from Lyme, so I’m sure you’ll overcome these problems as well.

Hey Sam! I love watching you play. But I gotta say last years Lacoste outfit was much more imposing than this years. Last year you loooked like a super hero and I think there is a psychological advantage in that. This white dress with the coloured piping is fine for practise, but you want those other girls to see you your guns and your shoulders and quake in their sneakers. Hope you return to the super hero dress for RG! GO Sammy. You are a champion!!!

I forgot to say: It is great that you play doubles with Lisa again! I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the Dubai doubles-draw. ;) I hope you continue playing together.

Hello Sam, again a third set tiebreaker lost, you must be wondering what is happening! Don’t worry, all this hard work will pay off soon. Your 4th rank is a great news, congratulations, and hopefully you can build on that for a successful spring season.

Thanks so much for posting your schedule. You are going to be busy with lots of travel on those airplanes you love so much! LOL. I hope you are enjoying your week off. It is certainly a good decision looking at the weeks ahead (I think that Francesca wishes she had done the same!). Back in action soon .. we all look forward to it.

Hi Sam, good luck in Indian Wells. I know that you can win all tournament, because your tennis is so good. I have one question for you: What is your favourite character in Grey’s anatomy? Please excuse my bad English.
