Unfortunately, Sam has bowed out of the Madrid Open in the second round, narrowly defeated by Russia’s Anna Chakvetadze. After leading in every set,  Sam was unable to capitalise on opportunities, and went down 6-1 2-6 6-7 in a match lasting over two hours. Her attention now switches to doubles.
