Runners-up in New York
8 September 2008
Hi there, I'm disappointed to lose the doubles final today but being in another final is a good thing. We had a couple of set points and it was disappointing not to take it to a third set, but still, it was a great tournament.
I was nervous before we went out and that took over from the start. Lisa played well and I started to get better and held serve in the second set then Lisa got a bit tired. If we had both started playing well at the same time, it could have been different. They certainly played well and they're a great team.
I'm pleased with the way things went overall this time in New York: to be in another final and have a chance to win another Grand Slam. I'm going to stay positive and I'm looking forward to the next tournament.
After we practised yesterday we went to Macy's for an hour and a bit. There were so many people there. I hate shopping and being in crowds doesn't interest me. I still bought a shirt...it's the best place to shop. My shirt cost $75 and I had a discount coupon on top of that. You can't go wrong in the States.
I'm about to be drugged tested. Every Grand Slam we get drug tested and then randomly throughout the year. I'm going to meet my parents after it's over at the beer garden, head back into town, finish packing, round up a few friends and have a bit of a celebration.
It won't be a late night...I fly out early tomorrow to Florida and then onto Japan. I'm going to Tokyo, Seoul, Zurich, Linz and then back home.
I don't feel that fresh right now. I probably won't get to practise before I get to Japan, so I hope I get through qualifying and have a few matches. I've played eight tournaments since I came back and I'm trying to pace myself. I have to be sensible with what I'm doing, but it's more the travel time that wears you down. This is going to be my second trip to Asia in a month and that can take a toll.
If I'm tired I sleep on planes and if I'm not I watch movies. I have no trouble sleeping on planes so long as I have an aisle seat.
I'm hoping to qualify for the season-ending championships. Every year Lisa and I have played together we've made it, so it would be great if we could get back again.
Summer in Australia will be pretty big, but I hope to start training hard again in December with Dave Taylor.
Working with Dave has been unbelievable on the court and off the court we get along well. I'd love to keep working with him. I'm playing as well as I've ever played and I have to hand it to him.
Bye for now, Sam

Australia's Samantha Stosur has fallen short of the US Open doubles title, losing the final in New York today.
Zimbabwe's Cara Black completed a US Open doubles double, joining South African-born American Liezel Huber to defeat Stosur and American Lisa Raymond 6-3 7-6 (8-6).
Top seeds Black and Huber won their eighth doubles title of the year and first US Open crown.
"It's unbelievable. It's hard to find words to describe it," Black said.
Black teamed with India's Leander Paes to win the US Open mixed doubles crown with a 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 triumph over Huber and Britain's Jamie Murray in Thursday's final.
"Playing that match against her was one of the toughest matches I've ever had to play," Black said.
"I really wanted to win this one for her."
Huber and Black won the final four points of the match, saving two set points to level the tie-breaker before Huber hit a forehand winner and Raymond send a forehand long to give Huber and Black the $US420,000 ($A518,198) top prize.
Huber became a US citizen last year and said winning the title rivaled the day she became an American as the most special of her life.
"I'm proud to be an American," she said. "This is the second-proudest day for me."
Raymond and Stosur won the 2005 US Open doubles crown. Raymond also won the title in 2001 with Aussie Rennae Stubbs.

New York, AAP - Sam Stosur and Lisa Raymond have beaten Katarina Srebotnik and Ai Sugiyama 7-5 6-1 to advance to the US Open women's doubles final today.
The 2005 US Open champions are yet to drop a set in the tournament and will face either the fifth seeded team of Anabel Medina-Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual or the top seeded pair of Cara Black and Liezel Huber in the final.
A win at Flushing Meadows would cap a remarkable comeback for Stosur after she became ill and missed eight months of tennis with Lyme Disease following last year's US Open.
Raymond and Stosur are gradually progressing towards reclaiming their world No.1 doubles crown after reaching the third round at this year's French Open and finishing runners-up to the Williams sisters at Wimbledon.

New York doubles success
3 September 2008
Today Lisa and I won our doubles quarterfinal, which was great, and now we are looking forward to playing Katarina Srebotnik and Ai Sugiyama in the semis.
Obviously it was disappointing to lose to Venus in the first round of singles, but I still took a lot away from the experience.
I've never played a night match here on centre court and the atmosphere was amazing. We also won our first round of mixed and now I am in the doubles semi with Lisa, so it's been a great tournament so far. We played well this morning and hopefully I'll have a day off tomorrow.
It's been really great to have Mum and Dad and my brother Dominic here in New York. They always come and watch me play the Aussie Open and usually at one other tournament during the year, but this is the first time they've seen me play since the Aussie Open in 2007.
I haven't seen them in four months, so it's great to have them all here and have their support. We are staying in an apartment so we have been able to have a couple of family dinners, which has also been fantastic.
Most days I have either practiced or played in the mornings and had the afternoons free to spend with them and even do a bit of sightseeing.
Yesterday we went to the Bodies exhibition in the historic seaport district and that was pretty amazing and a bit confronting.
We've also been to some nice restaurants and I'm looking forward to doing a bit of shopping and taking them to see the Statue of Liberty. I've been to New York a number of times so I'm happy to do whatever they want.
I've really loved working with Dave Taylor (AIS Head Women's Coach) and I don't think there is a coach out there who works as hard as he does.
We are working on all the usual things. My first service percentage needs to get better so it's a bit like the old days, just hitting buckets of balls and going out there and spending time on it.
The highlight of my year so far was making the two finals at Wimbledon. I've never been in finals there before and to experience two in two days was amazing. To win there was wonderful and a great way to end the European season.
The Olympics in Beijing was also amazing. Dave and I arrived a week before I had to play so we got to look around and see everything in the village.
It was tough to come up against Serena first up - I couldn't do anything about her, she just played too well and it was disappointing to lose in the doubles.
But I really took full advantage of being there and having the Olympic experience. The dorms were set up on nine levels, we were on the top with the swimmers and the basketballers and later the track and field athletes stayed below us.
We were going in and out of the same doors all the time so we were always bumping into them and sitting down and chatting to them.
I found it so interesting to hear about what they do and have so much respect for all these guys who do their sport for the love of it and make no money at all out of it. They put in just as much, if not more, than many pro athletes.
I will definitely keep in touch with lots of the athletes I met, it's really cool to have another network of people, and maybe some of them will come and see us at the Aussie Open. It's really easy to keep in touch through Facebook, and with many of them based in Europe you never know who you are going to run into.
After the US Open I have another five tournaments for the year, finishing up in Austria. I'm really looking forward to heading back to the Gold Coast in November for a couple of weeks holiday, before the training starts again.
We'll probably start with some physical training and then I will get back into hitting a few weeks later to prepare for the Aussie summer.
